
As part of Operation Vala Umgodi, police in KwaZulu-Natal captured 268 undocumented foreigners at an industrial site in Newcastle during the early hours of Saturday, November 23.
Law enforcement officials collected evidence regarding unauthorized migrants employed at two clothing and fabric production warehouses situated on Gutenburg Street. After obtaining a court-issued search warrant, a raid was carried out from Friday evening into the early hours of Saturday.

Col Robert Netshiunda, spokesperson for the provincial police, remarked, “During the operation, two Asian nationals were found in violation of Section 38 of the Immigration Act for employing illegal migrants in their warehouses. The two owners, aged 40 and 46, were released on R1,000 bail each after the court confirmed their addresses and immigration status.”

The 268 undocumented individuals, ranging in age from 18 to 51 years, were arrested and will be brought before the Newcastle Magistrates Court following processing by immigration authorities from the Department of Home Affairs.
