After the disappointing draw against Royal AM at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi voiced his frustration. He remarked that his players’ performance indicated a lack of respect and professionalism, leaving him in shock.
During the first half, Chiefs were dominant, netting two rapid goals from Ashley du Preez and Wandile Duba within a mere 13 minutes. Regrettably, they could not hold onto their lead, which allowed Royal AM to claw their way back into the contest.
Ayabulela Maxwele found the net to narrow the deficit after Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen was caught out of position, underscoring the team’s struggles in managing defensive scenarios.
Levy Mashiane brought the score to 2-2 for Shauwn Mkhize’s team, deftly lifting the ball over Given Msimango, who had surged out to intercept, and then slotting it past Petersen during injury time, leaving Nabi speechless.
“What we experienced was a complete lack of professionalism,” Nabi stated emphatically. “We had opportunities to score five or six goals in the first half, but we squandered them. At times, individual egos overshadow the team effort, and we fail to operate as a cohesive unit. If we do not pay respect to the game, it will not reward us.”
Nabi highlighted his particular disappointment regarding Yusuf Maart’s missed chance in the first half, expressing concern that players were prioritizing personal achievements over collective victory.
“We let far too many opportunities slip by,” he lamented. “After the 25-minute mark, it appeared that everyone was more focused on individual performances. That is not acceptable, and I addressed these shortcomings both on the pitch and at halftime. I emphasized the need to keep pushing for more goals.”
As a result of the draw, Chiefs now sit in sixth place on the Betway Premiership table, amassing 11 points from seven games.
