Residents of Delft are reeling from the alarming murder of a 13-year-old boy.
His body was discovered near Blikkiesdorp yesterday morning around 6 AM.
The boy’s face bore multiple stab wounds, and he had injuries to his stomach as well.
Jacky Ockhuizen, spokesperson for the Delft Community Policing Forum (CPF), indicated that the boy appeared to have been restrained.
Ockhuizen remarked: “At approximately 5:55 AM yesterday, we received a report from a passenger heading to work in a taxi in Delft South, near the Tsunami corners of Sandelhout Street and Cocktree Road, who saw what looked like a child lying in an open field.
“We quickly alerted the police to begin an investigation.
“We can confirm that the Delft SAPS found the body of a 13-year-old boy abandoned in the open field right across from Tsunami in Delft South.
“It appears that the boy was assaulted elsewhere, as he had noticeable marks and wounds on his face and stomach. It is clear he was restrained around his arms.”
Ockhuizen noted that the motive behind this ghastly murder remains unclear.
He added: “Investigating officers are actively following leads regarding this case, even as the body was still at the scene. The boy has not yet been identified.
“As CPF Delft leaders, we strongly denounce all forms of gender-based violence (GBV), child trafficking, child rape, and murders that take place in and around the Delft area.”
“The CPF will convene an urgent meeting with the Delft station commander to request enhanced police and law enforcement support, including more visible patrols in the Delft area this festive season to ensure resident safety.”
Captain FC van Wyk, police spokesperson, confirmed that detectives in Delft are looking into the murder case following the discovery of the boy’s body on Tuesday.
He explained: “According to reports, SAPS members on duty received a call about a person lying in the field.
“Upon their arrival, they found the teenager’s body lying on his back, with numerous injuries to his body and face.
“He was wearing blue jeans, a maroon t-shirt, and red All Star sneakers.
“The circumstances surrounding this tragic incident are under investigation, and no arrests have been made so far. The motive is part of the police inquiry.”
