Darts star Luke Humphries engaged in a heated debate with snooker legend Shaun Murphy after asserting that executing a nine-darter is more challenging than securing a 147 maximum break.
Humphries and Murphy were among the athletes participating in Paddy Power’s Perfect Challenge.
Two darts players, along with two snooker athletes and two golf competitors, came together to resolve a long-standing discussion: which achievement is the hardest—scoring a hole-in-one, a 147 break, or a nine-darter?
According to the reigning world darts champion Humphries, for a beginner, achieving a 147 might be the toughest task.
Nonetheless, he maintained that for an experienced player, completing a nine-darter is the more formidable challenge.
The world No. 1 remarked: “If you give someone a set of darts, a snooker cue, and a golf club, I believe they’d find it easiest to hit a hole-in-one, followed by a nine-darter, and then the 147. That’s the most difficult of all.”
“However, a professional understands all the angles in snooker.”
Murphy, a former world snooker champion, could be heard laughing before replying, “I had no idea you were a comedian. A 147 is more challenging than a nine-darter.”
Humphries responded, “What’s amusing about that? Did you listen to my point? I mentioned that as a professional, knowing the angles makes it appear simple.”
“In terms of legs and frames, more players hit 147s than those who achieve nine-darters.”

Murphy then countered, “Well, that doesn’t mean it’s simpler.”
The awkward banter concluded with Humphries quickly replying, “I never claimed it was simpler.”
