The Democratic Alliance (DA) remains steadfast in its demand for accountability from former Justice Minister Thembi Simelane regarding her alleged involvement in the VBS Mutual Bank scandal, despite her recent cabinet appointment.
As part of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s cabinet reshuffle, Simelane has transitioned to the Ministry of Human Settlements, while Mmamoloko Kubayi has stepped into the role of Justice Minister.

DA Spokesperson Adv. Glynnis Breytenbach voiced her concerns over the appointment, criticizing the ongoing scrutiny surrounding Simelane and deeming her retention in cabinet as a disrespect to the intelligence of South Africans.

“Minister Simelane has faced examination for the last five months. It has taken the president five months to arrive at this verdict; only the Lord knows the rationale behind it.
“Instead of removing her given the substantial evidence of her serious conflicts and compromises, he simply relocates her to another ministry while keeping her in cabinet—a choice that warrants reconsideration until all matters are settled.
This simple lateral move is nothing less than an offense to the intellect of every South African,” Breytenbach stated.
