
Pietermaritzburg – A devastating multi-vehicle collision involving trucks and a bus took place on the N3 North Bound near Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, claiming two lives and leaving many injured.
The tragic incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
Upon their arrival, ALS Paramedics discovered two trucks and a fully loaded bus involved in a rear-end crash on the national highway.
“The vehicles caught fire upon impact,” reported Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, late Thursday.
“The Pietermaritzburg Fire Department was dispatched to extinguish the flames while Paramedics evaluated and treated several victims.”
“It currently appears that both the bus driver and the truck driver did not survive their injuries from the collision.”
“Approximately 20 individuals received medical treatment on site for various injuries by multiple ambulances before being transported to several hospitals in Pietermaritzburg for additional care.”
The road will remain closed while emergency crews work to clear the area.
Currently, the circumstances leading to the accident remain uncertain; however, all relevant authorities are on-site and will conduct an investigation.
