Rules and Format of the Snooker Shoot Out 2024
The Snooker Shoot Out features a distinctive format that tests players against a ticking clock.
Each match is restricted to a maximum of 10 minutes, with a 15-second shot clock during the first half and a 10-second shot clock in the second half.
Key rules include:
- Frames have a maximum duration of 10 minutes.
- A shot clock ensures players do not delay.
- For the first five minutes, players have 15 seconds per shot.
- During the final five minutes, players have just 10 seconds per shot.
- Failing to play a shot in time incurs a five-point penalty (or the equivalent of the pink or black if attempted).
- Each shot must strike a cushion or pot a ball.
- Non-compliance with the rules results in the ball being awarded to the opponent.
- Players determine the opening break by “lagging” the white ball against the top cushion from the baulk line.
- The player who gets closest to the baulk cushion wins the lag.
- Tied matches are resolved with a shoot-out involving the blue ball, requiring players to pot the blue to a top pocket.
- Flukes on the final blue do not count.
