Durban City Surpasses Milford as Spurs Extend Winless Run

Durban City has ascended to the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings following a decisive 3-0 win against Leruma United, featuring two goals from Samkelo Maseko and one from Saziso Magawana at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday.

In other news, Milford FC dropped to fourth place after settling for a 1-1 draw with Black Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium, enabling promotion-seeking Lidoda Duvha to hold onto fifth place.

The teams from KZN are preparing for a crucial top-of-the-table clash on Sunday, 14 December, as the race for the second-tier title intensifies. JDR Stars secured second place with a narrow 1-0 victory over Hungry Lions at Soshanguve Giant Stadium.

In the mid-table arena, newly promoted Kruger United maintained their unbeaten streak to six matches with a 3-1 away victory against Upington City, climbing three spots to seventh, while Upington dropped to 11th after experiencing a seven-match winless stretch.

In a challenging setback, the University of Pretoria’s promotion hopes took a hit with a 1-0 loss against Casric Stars at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium, leaving them eight points adrift from the top. At the other end of the spectrum, Venda FC continues to struggle, sitting at the bottom of the table as they fight to avoid relegation.

The Vhembe team suffered a 4-2 defeat against Baroka FC at Global Stadium. Pretoria Callies’ chances for a late revival were thwarted by Lethabo Modimoeng, who netted a stoppage-time goal to secure a 3-2 win for Orbit College at TUT Stadium on Sunday afternoon, leaving Callies in 13th place with 13 points.

As Cape Town Spurs continue their struggle against relegation, they remain winless in their last nine league matches, with their latest setback being a 1-0 defeat to newcomers Highbury FC.

The Urban Warriors find themselves precariously in 14th place, level on 10 points with Leruma in 15th, and just ahead of Venda FC, as they brace for an impending relegation battle against Callies in their upcoming match on Friday, 13 December.
