Mamelodi Sundowns’ head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has delivered a strong message to Moroccan powerhouses Raja Club Athletic as they gear up for their CAF Champions League clash.
The Tshwane outfit recently earned a 1-1 draw against AS FAR in their Champions League group stage encounter in Morocco on Saturday.
Former Stellenbosch forward Iqraam Rayners netted the sole goal for the Brazilians. Mngqithi’s team currently sits in second place with two points from two matches, while group leaders AS FAR lead with four points.
The Brazilians are set to take on fellow Moroccan giants Raja in their third matchday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium this Sunday. Mngqithi warns Raja to get ready for a fierce contest, emphasizing that his team is a strong adversary when playing on their home turf.
“This is another match we need to analyze thoroughly,” Mngqithi remarked.
“I can assure you that playing at home is always a formidable challenge for any opposing team. Our primary objective is to secure victories, and I am confident we have positioned ourselves well.”
“Additionally, the draw between Raja and AS Maniema Union has played to our advantage in the standings. While we would have preferred to win against AS FAR, in football, one must accept the outcomes as they arrive.
“I am very pleased with my players’ performances, and I expect an even better showing at home.”
In related updates, the former Golden Arrows coach expressed his hope for defeating AS FAR in their encounter in South Africa during the second round, assuming they maintain their current form.
“This will be a different game; that is a commitment I can make,” Mngqithi affirmed.
“If we can replicate our performance against AS FAR in their stadium, backed by their passionate fans, I am confident we will be victorious.”
This upcoming matchup is scheduled for January 2025 and will mark the final group stage game for both teams. Prior to that, the Brazilians will travel to DR Congo to meet AS Maniema Union.
