Car Loses Control and Plummets Off Bridge: One Dead, Multiple Trapped Below

Durban – The tragic loss of one individual, who was traveling with others, in a vehicle that skidded off the wet M13 and struck a bridge before plunging several meters below, has overshadowed the festive season.

The unusual incident took place around noon on Friday, (13 December 2024).

“ALS Paramedics are currently on the scene of a fatal single-vehicle accident that occurred on the M13, near the Polo Pony offramp in the Shongweni area, west of Durban,” announced spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.

“At this time, it is believed that the vehicle lost control due to the slippery conditions and swerved between the bridges, falling a significant distance below.”

“Rescue teams are actively working to extricate individuals trapped in the wreckage; however, one person has been confirmed deceased.”

There were three individuals in the vehicle.

The deceased was a male passenger in his 20s who suffered severe injuries and was beyond saving.

Paramedics declared him dead at the scene.

The other two occupants received on-site stabilization treatment before being taken to a medical facility.
