Durban – A devastating multi-vehicle collision took place on Old Dutch Road in Durban on Saturday afternoon, resulting in the tragic deaths of two pedestrians.
As reported by ALS Paramedics Medical Services, the incident, involving five vehicles, occurred shortly after 12:30 at an intersection.
Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson indicated that when paramedics arrived on the scene, they found that “five vehicles had collided at the intersection, with several veering off the road and striking pedestrians.”
Jamieson also noted: “Paramedics swiftly called for additional assistance to handle the multiple-casualty situation.”
“By utilizing a triage system, they determined that two male pedestrians had been struck while on the pavement.”
“Sadly, one of the individuals, a man in his 30s, sustained critical injuries, and despite paramedics’ efforts, he could not be revived; he was declared dead at the scene.”
Jamieson reported that a second male pedestrian, believed to be in his 40s, suffered life-threatening injuries and was placed on a manual ventilator by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to a nearby specialized facility; unfortunately, he also succumbed to his injuries.
At least five other individuals from the involved vehicles received treatment on-site from ALS Paramedics before being taken to a nearby hospital in Durban.
