Good evening and welcome to SunSport’s live coverage of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year!
This esteemed event is being held at the BBC Sport headquarters in MediaCity, Salford.
Keely Hodgkinson is emerging as the top contender for the highly sought-after award after her remarkable achievements in the 800m event.
This Team GB athlete earned a gold medal in the 800m at the Paris Olympics earlier this year.
The Atherton native also secured the European title in Rome just two months prior to her competition in France.
Hodgkinson established a new British national record, making her the sixth fastest woman in history.
Another notable contender for Sports Personality of the Year is teenage darts prodigy Luke Littler, who finished as the runner-up at the World Darts Championship in January, bringing him into the spotlight as one of the sport’s elites.
Following his impressive performance at Alexandra Palace, Littler has claimed ten PDC titles in his debut year on the professional tour.
The 17-year-old aims to become the youngest recipient of this prestigious award in over sixty years. Furthermore, England and Real Madrid football sensation Jude Bellingham is also in contention for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year honor.
