Durban – A man in his 50s tragically drowned in a swimming pool in the Amanzimtoti area, situated south of Durban.
“Shortly after 7 pm on Sunday evening, ALS Paramedics received a call regarding another drowning incident on MacDonald Road in Kingsburgh, south of Durban,” reported spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.
“When paramedics arrived, they found an unresponsive man, believed to be in his 50s, near a private swimming pool.”
“Unfortunately, there was nothing paramedics could do, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.”
The police were on the scene and will be conducting a further investigation.
“This is the second drowning incident ALS Paramedics have dealt with today,” expressed Jamieson with sadness.
Jamieson further explained that in an earlier incident on Sunday afternoon, shortly before 2:30 pm, ALS Paramedics responded to a near-drowning case at a local beach in Doonside, close to Amanzimtoti, south of Durban.
“Upon arrival, paramedics found a woman in her twenties receiving help from local lifeguards,” Jamieson recalled.
“Advanced Life Support Paramedics then took over, stabilizing her at the scene before transporting her to a nearby hospital for further treatment.”
“It’s understood that the woman was swimming when she encountered difficulties and was assisted by lifeguards.”
Jamieson added: “We urge everyone to exercise caution while swimming and to avoid doing so under the influence of any substances.”
