
A heartbreaking accident involving a minibus taxi and a bakkie occurred on the N2 near Nywarha Location outside Dutywa at approximately 8:00 PM on Saturday. This devastating incident claimed the lives of 11 people, while another individual suffered serious injuries.
Overview of the Tragic Collision
The minibus taxi, which was transporting 10 passengers, caused eight deaths at the scene. The bakkie, which had four occupants, resulted in three fatalities, leaving just one survivor in critical condition.

Unathi Binqose, the spokesperson for Provincial Road and Transport, confirmed that the road has since reopened, and investigations into the cause of the accident are currently in process.

“The N2 is recognized as one of the most dangerous roads in the country, especially the section between Khashi Bridge and Mthatha,” noted Binqose.
This unfortunate event follows another accident in the same area just the week before, which resulted in four deaths.

“It is puzzling why this stretch continues to witness such recurring and severe accidents. While the statistics highlight its dangers, the reasons for these ongoing incidents remain unclear,” Binqose commented.

Although the N2 is infamous for accidents, it lacks visible physical barriers or hazards. This has renewed calls for drivers to maintain a heightened state of awareness.
“Drivers must be especially cautious and patient to prevent head-on collisions,” Binqose emphasized.
