SEAN DYCHE has announced that Ashley Young “hurt his neck” during the game against Chelsea.
The veteran full-back, who is 39 years old, will be sidelined for the Boxing Day clash with Man City due to a suspension.
The former England international received his fifth yellow card during the draw against Chelsea, resulting in a one-match ban.
He was swapped out with 15 minutes remaining, allowing club captain Seamus Coleman to take his place.
Dyche expanded on the situation afterward, indicating that Young’s availability for the next match at the Etihad was also in doubt due to an injury.
Dyche stated: “Youngy is suspended, but he hurt his neck, even though he made a fantastic header at the far post.”
“We had to substitute him for both reasons – to make sure he was okay physically and because he was already on a yellow card.”
Both Young and his 18-year-old son Tyler, who is part of Peterborough United, are hoping the injury is not severe.
This is especially important as Everton is scheduled to play the League One team in the FA Cup on January 9, a potential match-up that could feature a father-son duel.
Despite his age, Young continues to make valuable contributions for Everton, having already made 14 Premier League appearances this season.
