In South Africa, donations tax waives the first R100,000. Nonetheless, Section 18A of the tax legislation enables a 10% deduction on donations made to registered public benefit organizations. What is the future of the rand against the dollar?
This year, the rand has shown fluctuations, but in general, it has seen only slight weakening. I discussed the rand’s targets with Petri Redelinghuys from Herenya Capital Advisors. He indicated that R16.82/$ is a possibility, but it’s crucial to keep an eye on the US$ Index (DXY), as many rand movements are linked to dollar fluctuations.
