Durban – A tragic early morning accident involving a minibus taxi on the southbound N2, just before the Spaghetti Junction in eThekwini, KwaZulu-Natal, has led to the fatalities of two individuals.
Shortly before 6 am on Monday, (30 December 2024), ALS Paramedics Medical Services reacted to alerts regarding the minibus taxi incident on the N2, southbound, prior to the Spaghetti Junction.
“Numerous injuries were being managed at the scene; regrettably, two individuals were declared dead immediately,” reported ALS Paramedics.
At least 21 passengers from the minibus taxi received on-site medical attention.
Just prior to 6 am today, ALS paramedics were called to the scene of a severe minibus taxi crash on the N2 southbound, ahead of the Spaghetti Junction.
Multiple ambulances and Advanced Life Support Paramedics were dispatched to assist.
“As per the initial caller, there were several injured casualties,” indicated ALS Paramedics Medical Services spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.
Upon their arrival, paramedics found that a minibus taxi, carrying around 23 passengers, had lost control, crashed into a barrier, and rolled several times, throwing many of its occupants out of the vehicle.
Jamieson noted that paramedics swiftly requested additional support and began a triage process.
Paramedics from various services attended to 21 patients with injuries ranging from moderate to critical before transporting them to different hospitals in Durban for further care.
“Sadly, two males, believed to be in their 30s and 40s, sustained critical injuries, and despite the efforts of paramedics, they could not be saved; they were pronounced dead at the scene,” Jamieson added.
“The N2 is currently blocked in both directions as emergency responders continue their operations, and this situation may persist for an extended period.
“At this moment, the events leading up to the accident remain unclear; however, all relevant authorities are present and will carry out a comprehensive investigation.”
