Johannesburg – A 42-year-old police officer from Eldorado Park, who tragically shot his Traffic Warden girlfriend, Chesnay Patricia Keppler, in the early hours of Boxing Day, is currently in the hospital.
The police sergeant, who reportedly shot himself before being taken into custody, was unable to appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Monday, December 30, 2024.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), which investigates cases involving death, rape, torture, and assault by police officers, announced that the officer’s case has been rescheduled for January 6, 2025.
IPID has confirmed that the officer, whose name is withheld pending his court appearance, remains under police guard while receiving medical treatment.
The suspect sustained injuries while attempting to take his own life before being arrested for the murder of his girlfriend.
IPID stated that the police sergeant, accused of firing at the 22-year-old traffic warden through a kitchen window at her Eldorado Park residence, is expected to be medically cleared to attend court in January 2025.
Witnesses reported that the shooting was recorded on a cellphone, and that footage has been submitted to IPID.
