Verena – Authorities have seized at least 26 cattle suspected to be stolen in Verena, near KwaMhlanga, Mpumalanga, while one person has been “brought in for questioning.”
The confiscation occurred during an anti-stock theft operation led by the Mpumalanga Acting Police Commissioner, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
To assist with the operation, the police deployed a helicopter.
Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi noted that several cattle owners faced fines for improperly branding their livestock.
The acting police commissioner from Mpumalanga highlighted that livestock theft is a prevalent problem in KwaMhlanga and surrounding areas, as well as across the province.
“We are satisfied with the advancements achieved during the operation and assure the public that similar initiatives will be carried out in other regions to combat stock theft,” said Major General Mkhwanazi.
He urged law-abiding citizens to continue collaborating with the police by reporting any criminal activities.
“We take the concerns of livestock owners very seriously and have taken concrete actions to resolve this issue once and for all,” added Major General Mkhwanazi.
