Johannesburg – A police sergeant, aged 42, who reportedly attempted suicide following the alleged murder of his 22-year-old girlfriend, Chesnay Patricia Keppler, has been discharged from the hospital. He is set to appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The sergeant from Eldorado Park had been receiving medical treatment in the hospital since he shot himself just before his arrest over a week ago.
As reported by IPID, the independent body investigating cases of police-related deaths, rape, torture, and assault, “The accused police officer has been released from the hospital and is now in custody at Moroka Police Station.”
It is alleged that on Boxing Day, December 26, 2024, the sergeant shot the traffic warden through a kitchen window at her home in Eldorado Park.

The violent incident was witnessed, and the recording has been submitted to IPID for review.
The sergeant, who shot himself before his arrest, was hospitalized under police guard.
He was unable to appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on the previously scheduled date, Monday, December 30, 2024.
However, IPID has confirmed that the accused has now been discharged and is expected to attend court.
