LUKE LITTLER is eagerly anticipating the chance to don the England jersey with pride this summer as he aims to add the World Cup of Darts to his collection of trophies.
He has also issued a challenge to Luke Humphries, his teammate, suggesting that he is intent on rising to the top of the world rankings.
By capturing his first world darts championship title, Littler, now 17 years old, has secured the second spot in the PDC Order of Merit, amassing £1,118,500 in prize money.
This figure does not account for the additional earnings he achieved as the Premier League champion (£315,000) or his victories in World Series events (£150,000).
Last year, Littler had just begun his professional career and was not ranked high enough to qualify for the 40-nation World Cup, much to the astonishment of many.
This year, he has been chosen to represent England and is set to form an all-Luke dream team in Frankfurt during the tournament scheduled from June 12-15.
Humphries, age 29, along with Michael Smith, 34, were crowned World Cup champions last summer, while the legendary duo of Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis have lifted the title four times.
A passionate England supporter, Littler wore the Three Lions jersey during the Euros 2024 final when former manager Gareth Southgate’s squad faced Spain in Berlin.
He stated: “Last year, people didn’t understand that selection was based on rankings, and many were asking, ‘Why isn’t Luke Littler participating in the World Cup?’
“I had to explain: ‘Because I’d just started my journey.’
“Now, with my substantial ranking earnings impacting my standing, I believe I’m quite competitive with Luke. I can’t wait.”
Humphries is likely still recovering from his unexpected 4-1 defeat in the fourth round to Peter Wright at Ally Pally, which led to him losing the Sid Waddell Trophy.
In 2025, Cool Hand Luke will have to defend the significant prize money he secured from past successes and deep tournament runs, while Littler—now beginning his second year as a pro—awaits his opportunity.

The young talent from Warrington remarked: “Naturally, the World No. 1 spot could be within reach this year.
“Especially if Luke Humphries is unable to maintain his earnings.
“However, if he manages to secure wins this year and retains his prize money, I will have to commend his achievements.”
