De Jong Poised to Ruin Chiefs’ Grand Celebration Day

Stellenbosch FC forward Andre de Jong is keen on securing crucial points in their important Betway Premiership match against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium this Wednesday evening.

After his standout performance in the CAF Confederation Cup, the New Zealand international is confident that his team is ready to convert their continental achievements into domestic wins.

De Jong played a key role in Stellenbosch’s CAF triumph over CD Lunda Sul on Sunday, netting two goals to keep their progression hopes alive.

However, the striker emphasizes that the squad has quickly shifted its attention to the upcoming challenge — a vital encounter against AmaKhosi at the historic FNB Stadium.

“The atmosphere within the team is positive and inspiring. We’ve been together in Gauteng since Saturday, and I sense that everyone is in a good space, looking forward to concluding the week with a solid performance against Kaizer Chiefs,” De Jong shared.

Since Stellenbosch has played only one league match this January owing to their CAF obligations, De Jong highlighted the necessity of earning a full three points.

“This match is vital for us, especially considering the tight league standings. Since it will be our only league game this month because of our CAF commitments, we must aim for maximum points,” he stressed.

Stellenbosch currently occupies a more favorable league position than Kaizer Chiefs, who have been struggling with inconsistency. Nevertheless, historical records indicate that the Chiefs have the advantage, winning four of their last five encounters with Stellenbosch.

Conversely, recent displays suggest the visitors might just have what it takes to alter the narrative in their favor.

“Our focus is now entirely on the upcoming clash with Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday, and I believe we have been energized by our significant result over the weekend. We aim to channel our recent CAF form into the league,” De Jong remarked.

Stellenbosch’s recent performances have highlighted their resilience and potent attacking prowess, traits they will need to exhibit once again under the stadium lights at FNB Stadium. Meanwhile, the Chiefs — in spite of their difficulties — will be determined to commemorate a significant milestone as the club celebrates its 55th anniversary.
