Mbuyiseni Ndlozi Resigns from Parliament

Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, a Member of Parliament representing the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has officially declared his resignation from parliament. This announcement, released by the EFF on Thursday, follows months of speculation about a possible divide between Ndlozi and EFF leader Julius Malema.

His resignation trails the contentious departure of Floyd Shivambu, Malema’s former deputy, who has recently taken on the role of secretary-general in the newly formed MK Party. Sources within the EFF indicate that Ndlozi felt marginalized after opting not to speak during Shivambu’s dramatic exit.

Statement from the EFF

The EFF has dismissed assertions of internal conflict, asserting that Ndlozi’s resignation, along with Yazini Tetyana’s, was a voluntary choice.

“The EFF acknowledges the voluntary requests of both members to step down from their positions, recognizing their dedicated contributions to the organization throughout their time since the EFF began its representation in the legislature,” stated EFF spokesperson Leigh-Ann Mathys.

Ndlozi’s Contributions in Parliament

Since 2014, Ndlozi has been a prominent figure in the National Assembly, noted for his articulate communication and unwavering commitment to EFF’s values. His resignation is perceived as a significant event, with political analysts interpreting it as an essential change in the party’s leadership dynamics.

Yazini Tetyana, another longstanding EFF member, has also resigned. Tetyana previously represented the EFF in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature before transitioning to parliament.

Speculation and Impacts Moving Forward

Although the EFF insists the resignations were voluntary, the timing raises questions about possible underlying divisions within the party. Ndlozi’s close association with Shivambu, paired with his silence during Shivambu’s exit, has led some analysts to perceive this as a sign of internal discord.

The resignations are anticipated to spark discussions about the stability of EFF’s leadership and its direction as the party navigates a more competitive political landscape.
