Former PSL player and currently a free agent, Mahlatsi Makudubela, may be on the verge of joining Linafoot Ligue 1, with interest from notable clubs in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he is said to be undergoing assessments.
Endearingly called Skudu, the South African winger has been without a team since July 2024, following the conclusion of his contract with Tanzanian giants Young Africans at the season’s end.
During his short time at Yanga, Makudubela was instrumental in leading the club to their impressive fourth consecutive NBC Premier League title, alongside clinching the Federation Cup and advancing to the CAF Champions League quarterfinals.
After remaining a free agent for six months, recent reports indicate that the 34-year-old winger has attracted interest from AS Vita Club, the 1973 African champions, who are keen to assess the seasoned player.
This development follows the departure of key player Elie Mpanzu from the Kinshasa-based squad, who is drawing interest from Simba SC, managed by Fadlu Davids, while Vita is hoping for a higher transfer fee for their valued asset.
Before leaving the Tanzanian team, it was reported that Makudubela had garnered interest from various East African clubs, including Rwandan champions APR FC, Azam FC, and several sides in the Betway Premiership as the 2024/25 season approaches.
Though a transfer did not take place, his connection with Rwanda dates back to January 2024, when the former Orlando Pirates player made a significant impact against APR during the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar.
Having claimed his first league title last season, Makudubela is eager to take the opportunity to become a champion in another country if a deal comes to fruition. Currently, AS Vita Club is leading Group B in the 13-team championship by a three-point margin.
In addition to his time with Pirates in South Africa, the talented left-sided forward has played for teams such as Platinum Stars, Golden Arrows, Mamelodi Sundowns’ reserve team, Chippa United, Highlands Park, University of Pretoria, and Marumo Gallants.
