
Pienaar – Six people have sadly lost their lives, and numerous others have been injured following a shooting at a liquor store in Pienaar, near Mbombela (formerly known as Nelspruit), Mpumalanga.
As reported by Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the deadly shooting occurred on the morning of Saturday, January 11, 2025.
“A shooting incident took place in Pienaar, just outside Nelspruit, during the early hours of the morning, around 04:00,” Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane stated.
“We are in the process of investigating the situation, as it appears that around six individuals were killed at the scene. More information regarding this incident will be disclosed as it becomes available.”
The deceased include five males and one female.
“An unspecified number of individuals have also suffered injuries and have been rushed to the hospital,” Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane further added.
Currently, the motive behind the shooting remains unknown.
No arrests have been made thus far.
In light of the tragic shooting, the African Transformation Movement (ATM) has demanded a thorough investigation, swift arrests, and prosecution.
“This dreadful incident highlights the urgent requirement for enhanced safety measures within our communities and necessitates decisive actions against those who commit such heinous acts,” stated the ATM.
“In the wake of this tragedy, the ATM offers its heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
“We recognize the immense pain inflicted by this senseless act of violence and stand in solidarity with the affected families during this extremely challenging time.”
