
In a tragic incident early Saturday morning, eight people lost their lives due to a shooting, while three others are currently hospitalized, prompting a significant police operation.
Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, the spokesperson for the provincial police, confirmed the heartbreaking fatalities, stating that six victims were declared dead at the scene, and two others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. One of the deceased was found inside a VW Polo, which had been shot multiple times, while another Polo at the location displayed signs of gunfire damage.

“We have put together a specialized unit to investigate the events surrounding this shooting,” Mdhluli remarked. He mentioned that while no arrests have been made so far, efforts to locate the armed gang responsible are ongoing.
Authorities are encouraging the public to provide any information they may have, urging anyone with knowledge to reach out to the Crime Stop hotline at 08600 10111 or report through the MYSAPSAPP. “All information will be treated confidentially, and callers can opt to remain anonymous,” Mdhluli reassured.
Condemnation and Condolences
This unfortunate event has drawn strong condemnation from the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison. MEC Jackie Macie described the situation as deeply concerning and called for swift action.

“We implore the community to allow the police the space and time necessary to conduct their investigation and ensure that those accountable are brought to justice. Liquor vendors must also prioritize the safety of their customers,” Macie emphasized.

The MEC expressed her condolences to the families grieving this loss and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
The shooting in Pienaar is the latest in a series of violent occurrences in Mpumalanga, raising significant concerns about public safety. The police are investigating the possibility of gang-related motives due to the use of multiple firearms and targeted vehicles.
