
Middleburg – Exceptional matriculant Gugu Pioneer Libambo has been celebrated as Mpumalanga’s leading Grade 12 student for the class of 2024, earning a brand-new Toyota Vitz as part of her accolades.
Thanks to her hard work, perseverance, and commitment to her academic pursuits, Gugu has received this generous gift, sponsored by the Mpumalanga Provincial Government.

“Following the announcement of the 2024 National Senior Certificate Examination results, she has been declared the overall best learner in our province, surpassing the 67,000 students who participated in the exam,” stated Mpumalanga MEC for Education Cathy Dlamini on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
“Her achievements are truly outstanding. As a reward for her efforts, she has been awarded a full bursary from the provincial government, along with an exciting array of gifts, which includes laptops, microwaves, a bar fridge, an iron, and a breakfast pack.
“To cap it all off, she has received a brand-new vehicle, also generously provided. This remarkable accomplishment clearly illustrates that diligence and determination result in rewards.”
This annual award aims to inspire and encourage matriculants to approach their education earnestly and strive for excellence.
Gugu completed her 2024 National Senior Certificate Examination at Mphanama Secondary School in Middleburg, which falls under the jurisdiction of Steve Tshwete Local Municipality.
She emerged as the province’s top achiever among more than 60,000 candidates.
MEC Dlamini emphasized that the province takes pride in her accomplishments as well as those of the class of 2024, achieving an outstanding provincial pass rate of 84.9%.
She remarked that the class of 2024 exceeded all expectations and objectives.
