Johannesburg – Vodacom Group (www.Vodacom.com) has been honored as Africa’s leading employer by the Top Employers Institute for the second consecutive year.
This prestigious recognition and high ranking have also been awarded to Vodacom Group, Vodacom South Africa, Vodacom Mozambique, Vodacom Tanzania, and Safaricom Kenya.
The Top Employers Institute grants this accolade based on organizations’ performance in crucial HR domains, including people strategy, work environment, talent acquisition, learning development, and employee well-being.
“We are extremely proud to achieve the Top Employer certification in Africa for the second time,” says Shameel Joosub, CEO of Vodacom Group.
“We believe that the well-being of our employees is fundamental to our mission of creating connections for a better future.
“By continuously enhancing our Employee Value Proposition through compassionate and inclusive policies and practices, we are cultivating a workplace culture where individuals feel valued, empowered, and motivated to unlock their full potential.”
In 2024, Vodacom has strengthened its Employee Value Proposition with initiatives that underscore its commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment.
With a focus on Compassion, Acceptance, Respect, and Empathy (C.A.R.E.), the company’s improved wellness programs provide support throughout all life stages, including menopause, and introduce a more comprehensive family responsibility leave policy.
“Maintaining our position as Africa’s Top Employer once again reflects our dedication to enabling our employees to succeed,” comments Matimba Mbungela, Chief Human Resources Officer at Vodacom Group.
“However, our effort to nurture talent and promote career development within the tech sector also extends to millions of young people across the continent, who are the future workforce.
“There is an urgent need to prepare the next generation for a constantly evolving digital economy.
“To tackle this challenge, we have launched the Digital Skills Hub, with the goal of equipping one million young Africans by 2027 with access to self-paced digital skills training for individuals aged 18 to 35.”
Crafted in collaboration with various tech organizations, including Amazon Web Services and Microsoft, the Vodacom Digital Skills Hub aims to boost digital literacy throughout Africa, bridging the digital skills gap in eight countries: South Africa, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Mozambique, Lesotho, Egypt, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Kenya.
The Vodacom Digital Skills Hub is designed to inspire the upcoming generation to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), providing engaging and practical digital skills training for young learners across the continent.
AWS Educate is one of the initial programs available through the Digital Skills Hub and serves as an enhancement to Vodacom’s existing online learning platforms.
AWS Educate offers beginners an extensive library of self-paced online training covering subjects from cloud fundamentals to artificial intelligence and machine learning.
“As we welcome a new year, we urge young people—whether students, job seekers, or aspiring entrepreneurs—to take full advantage of the Digital Skills Hub,” expressed Joosub.
“By supporting digital skills training as a Top Employer, we are empowering the next generation of the workforce and ensuring that everyone has a chance to connect to a brighter future.”
