Johannesburg – The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, widely known as the Hawks, has made remarkable strides in identifying those accountable for leaking the Matric results for the 2024 class.
There are claims that these results were sold online before their official release.
As per Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale, the Department of Education lodged a complaint on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the Pretoria Central Police Station.
The matter was swiftly transferred to the Hawks for a thorough investigation.
“This morning, January 16, 2025, the Hawks’ Serious Economic Offences Unit, which is part of the Serious Commercial Crime Investigation and Cybercrime Investigation Head Office, executed a search and seizure warrant at a residence in Hillcrest, located north of Johannesburg,” Colonel Mogale stated on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
“At this site, the Hawks found a 21-year-old male along with his parents.”
“During the operation, several electronic devices and an unlicensed shotgun loaded with live ammunition were uncovered.”
Colonel Mogale noted that the 21-year-old suspect will be charged with illegal possession of a firearm, and the investigation into the leak of the Matric results will proceed.
