ERLING HAALAND confesses that his remarkable £260 million, TEN-YEAR contract with Manchester City feels “surreal.”
The Norwegian sensation, 24, is set to earn a minimum of £500,000 weekly BEFORE bonuses, marking the most lucrative contract in Premier League history, which will keep him at the Etihad until 2034.
Haaland has also removed the release clauses from his earlier contract, which was set to expire in 2027, preventing long-time admirers Real Madrid and Barcelona from acquiring the striker for a lower fee.
Moreover, City manager Pep Guardiola expressed his astonishment when he learned about the impressive duration of the mega-contract from the director of football, Txiki Begiristain.
Haaland remarked: “It’s a bit surreal, but I enjoy a touch of the surreal, so it suits me perfectly.”
“It’s a remarkable milestone, and I’m extremely satisfied — it was an effortless choice.”
SunSport reported on November 21 that securing Haaland’s future was City’s top objective following Guardiola’s contract extension for another two years.
Haaland was brought in from Borussia Dortmund for £51.4 million in 2022 and has netted an impressive 111 goals in 126 matches.
His contract outshines the nine-year deals signed by Chelsea players Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez, and Nicolas Jackson.
Haaland further stated: “Now I can utterly focus on improving my game because I’m going to be here for such an extended period.”
“In the past 2½ years with City, I have been winning many trophies, playing fantastic football, and enjoying incredible experiences.”
“City is an amazing club, filled with wonderful individuals and incredible fans.”
Erling Haaland shares his thoughts on extending his contract with Man City until 2034
“I would like to extend my gratitude to Pep, his coaching team, my fellow players, and everyone at the club for their steadfast support.”
Haaland, who celebrated the birth of his first child last month, has won the Premier League’s Golden Boot for the last two seasons.
During the 2022-23 season, he scored 52 goals in total across all competitions, aiding City in achieving a historic Treble, and followed that up with 38 goals the subsequent season.
This season, he has already netted 21 goals and looks to increase his tally against Ipswich tomorrow.
Pep communicated his surprise upon realizing the length of Haaland’s contract.
He said: “I asked Txiki to repeat it, and he confirmed, ‘Ten’. I questioned, ‘Are you sure?’ He reassured, ‘Yes’.
“This is tremendous news for all of us. He’s making me a better coach.”
“He recognizes that there’s no better place for him to be for the next ten years.”
“That’s precisely the choice he and his family made.”
Meanwhile, striker Omar Marmoush was excluded from Eintracht Frankfurt’s squad for their 2-0 victory over Dortmund on Friday night as he prepares to join City in a transfer deal worth up to £67 million.
