Pretoria – The Pretoria Regional Court has postponed the case of businessman Kishene Chetty, which involves allegations of forgery, uttering, and fraud in connection with a dubious R800,000 tender for police toners.
During a hearing on Thursday, January 16, 2025, the regional court notified Chetty and 12 other co-defendants that their court date has been rescheduled to March 24, 2025, while awaiting a decision on a high court application.
The defendants have submitted a petition to the high court to consolidate their police tender fraud case with another corruption investigation they are currently facing.
They are confronted with numerousCharges, including forgery, uttering, fraud, and theft linked to the procurement of toners for the South African Police Service (SAPS) in both Mpumalanga and the Eastern Cape Province.
This misconduct reportedly occurred in 2015, resulting in a loss exceeding R800,000 for SAPS.
Some SAPS officials are included among those accused.
Investigations have uncovered that multiple police officers are alleged to have conspired with the companies involved to secure the tender, despite knowing that these firms had presented fraudulent documents.
The companies implicated in this matter include Bambanani Marketing and Projects, Baroma Construction and Office Consumables, Super Stationery Distributors, Sifikile Furniture and Projects, as well as Vatika and Projects.
“Investigations conducted by the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) have resulted in further charges against Chetty for other alleged corruption cases amounting to millions within the SAPS,” stated IDAC Spokesperson Henry Mamothame.
