Johannesburg – Authorities are investigating a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of four people, including a university student, at a taxi rank in Doornfontein, Jeppe.
In light of the shocking event, Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi stated: “On the morning of 20 March 2025, a group of armed individuals arrived at a taxi rank in Doornfontein within the Jeppe policing area and began firing indiscriminately.”
Colonel Nevhuhulwi confirmed that four individuals were declared dead at the scene, while three others were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
“One of the injured individuals is a university student who was waiting for a bus,” the police spokesperson reported.

Earlier in the week, in a separate shooting, Colonel Nevhuhulwi mentioned that three individuals were killed at the Zonkizizwe taxi rank on Wednesday, 19 March 2025.

“The deceased have been identified as taxi drivers, while two passengers suffered injuries and were transported to a hospital,” noted Colonel Nevhuhulwi.
“At this point in time, no suspects have been arrested.”
