MK Party Accuses GNU of ‘Erasing’ Zuma’s Presence at Namibian President’s Inauguration

Johannesburg – The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) has voiced its dissatisfaction over the failure to officially recognize its leader, former president Jacob Zuma, during the inauguration of Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

In a statement released on Saturday, March 22, 2025, the MK Party expressed that it “strongly condemns the DA-led coalition, the so-called Government of National Unity, for their efforts to erase President Zuma’s participation at President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s inauguration from South African history.”

The statement further highlighted: “An official post on X, previously known as ‘Twitter,’ by the country’s official account (@GovernmentZA), currently overseen by the Ramaphosa administration, contained images from the inauguration event. However, the caption acknowledged other former heads of state while deliberately omitting H.E. President Jacob G. Zuma, despite his presence.”

“This blatant act of political provocation, alongside their unfounded ‘9 wasted years’ campaign aimed at distorting a significant and positive chapter of our nation’s history, only serves to exacerbate the MK Party’s concerns, mislead the public, and promote an inaccurate and unjust narrative.

“By willfully neglecting to recognize the President’s presence at the inauguration, the so-called GNU has insulted not only President Zuma but the entire nation as well.”

The MK Party criticized the exploitation of state-owned platforms, such as official social media accounts, for advancing partisan political agendas, claiming it undermines both fairness and impartiality.

“These actions jeopardize the integrity of democratic processes by manipulating public perception and opinion through the selective dissemination of information,” the statement elaborated.

“It is the duty of the GNU to ensure that official government social media platforms serve as neutral spaces that foster open and honest discussions, rather than being exploited for political propaganda.”

“The MK Party reiterates that President Jacob Zuma was indeed present and received a warm welcome from both the Namibian community and the attending delegates.”

The statement further remarked: “It is unfortunate that the current government, known as the GNU, perceives President Zuma as such a threat that they resort to efforts aimed at erasing his presence in matters of national importance.”

“This calculated act of political erasure reflects not only petty politics but also a considerable affront to South Africa’s historical narrative.”

“The MK Party firmly asserts that President Jacob Zuma will not be marginalized, despite any deliberate attempts to diminish his presence and legacy.”
