Nigeria Shocked by Zimbabwe in World Cup Qualifier Draw

Nigeria’s Super Eagles experienced a setback in their World Cup qualification hopes following a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe at Godswill Akpabio Stadium during Tuesday evening’s FIFA World Cup qualifying match.

Victor Osimhen, the Galatasaray forward who had netted twice in their last game against Rwanda, scored the only goal for the Super Eagles. Regrettably, 23-year-old Tawanda Blessing Chirewa equalized for Zimbabwe in the dying moments of the match, leaving the home team heartbroken.

The Super Eagles have been struggling lately, recording just one win, three draws, and one defeat in their last five outings. With the result of today’s match, they now find themselves with four draws in their group.

Nigeria currently sits fourth in Group C with seven points after six matches. Their upcoming fixtures are set for September against Rwanda and group leaders, Bafana Bafana.

In the same group, Bafana Bafana strengthened their position at the top of FIFA World Cup Group C with a 2-0 victory over Benin at the neutral Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan.

Goals from Lyle Foster and Jayden Adams in the second half enabled Bafana Bafana to reach 13 points after six matches, increasing their lead over Rwanda, who drew with Lesotho, by three points.
