Pretoria – The City of Tshwane has informed residents about the critical pressure on water resources and the possibility of dry taps if consumption does not decrease.
On Wednesday, 10 September 2025, the City of Tshwane announced that it has “observed a significant decline in the levels of some of our reservoirs, signaling that we have entered the high-demand season.”
The City further noted: “As the need for water escalates during this period, our water resources are under significant strain, making it vital for everyone to play a part in conserving this essential resource.”
“To mitigate the risk of depleted reservoirs and potential supply challenges, we strongly urge residents to utilize water judiciously and sparingly.”
The City recommended simple actions, such as reducing outdoor water usage, fixing household leaks, refraining from unnecessary vehicle washing, and limiting irrigation to early morning or late evening hours, which can greatly assist in stabilizing supply levels.
Water is a shared resource, and its sustainability hinges on collective efforts.
“By adopting mindful consumption habits, residents not only help ensure ongoing supply but also aid in the long-term preservation of our city’s water infrastructure,” the City highlighted.
“Every drop saved today alleviates the burden on our reservoirs and ensures that water remains available for essential needs.”
“We request all residents to fully engage with this urgent call to action.”
“Your responsible water usage will help the city maintain sufficient supply levels and prevent disruptions.”
“Together, through intentional water-saving measures, we can protect our resources and ensure reliable access for all communities during this period of peak demand.”
