Mdaka Commends Amajita’s Character Following World Cup Round of 16 Achievement

Coach Raymond Mdaka praised Amajita’s persistence and determination following their victory over the United States, advancing to the round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup U20.

The hard-fought 2-1 win on Sunday represented a key achievement for Amajita, who came into the match ranked third in Group E with three points.

Confronted with a tough opponent, Coach Raymond Mdaka commended his team’s resilience, stating, “Firstly, I want to congratulate the boys for their exceptional performance; they showed character and proved they are the African champions.”

Amajita faced a strong challenge from the United States, who had won their first two matches with an impressive tally of goals.

Nonetheless, Amajita’s determination and teamwork shone through as they effectively implemented their strategy throughout the match.

“Facing the USA was a vital test, especially given their previous two victories,” Mdaka highlighted.

“It felt like a daunting challenge, but as a team, we resolved to showcase our strengths.”

The African champions took the lead just before halftime and successfully resisted the United States’ efforts in the second half, demonstrating both tactical skill and spirit.

Mdaka acknowledged the team’s ability to maintain composure under pressure.

“I’m thrilled that we displayed resilience, particularly after the first half, and we were able to manage and uphold our performance through the second half,” he stated.

“The pressure was significant, but we remained tactical and driven by character, which is always essential for the team.”

This victory secured Amajita’s second place in Group E with six points, alongside the United States, who finished first, while France, in third place, also advanced as one of the best third-placed teams.

Amajita is set to clash with Colombia in the round of 16 on Wednesday evening at Estadio Fiscal de Talca.

This marks Amajita’s second progression to the World Cup’s round of 16, as they aim to make history by reaching the quarterfinals for the first time.

Mdaka concluded by thanking the entire team, including the technical staff and support crew, for their achievement, stating, “Kudos to the boys, the technical team, the support staff, and everyone involved; the atmosphere was an incredible motivator. We are now entering the knockout stage – I am immensely proud of everyone in the club.”

SAFA president Danny Jordaan conveyed his excitement regarding the win in a message to Sportswire:

“A remarkable and fantastic performance from Amajita to conquer the USA. Congratulations to Head of Delegation Solomon Mkhabela, Coach Mdaka, and the players.”
