Fashanu is under investigation for various charges, including criminal conspiracy, threats to life, intimidation, trespassing, and fraudulent acquisition in Nigeria, where he resides.

The ex-footballer categorically denies the allegations and is suing the police for £100,000 in damages, as reported by the Mirror.

He claims that his rights were violated when he and his wife, Vivian, alongside attorney Chinyere Chigbu, were unlawfully detained over what he argues is a civil matter regarding land ownership.

Reports suggest that investors had planned to pay Fashanu over £500,000 for a 22-acre piece of land before conflicts emerged.

Upon learning that the investors had dispatched workers to erect a perimeter fence around the land, Fashanu and his legal team opted to investigate further.

They assert that they discovered the workers under unusual police protection, and both were detained after mentioning they would report to the police station to sort out the matter.

Fashanu has accused authorities of “arrest, detention, and inhumane treatment” for approximately three hours on December 16.

He further noted that there were “subsequent intermittent restrictions” on his “personal liberty” until December 19.

There are also claims that Vivian was improperly detained, having accompanied him to the police station.

Additionally, Fashanu alleged that the police’s seizure of his mobile phone represented a “gross unconstitutional infringement” of his rights.
