The coach of Northville High School’s girls’ basketball team was filmed yanking senior Hailey Monroe’s hair.

Monroe was seen in tears as she watched their competitors, LaFargeville, celebrate their championship victory with a 43-37 score at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York.

As the top scorer of the team, she had been disqualified during this critical game.

Zullo approached from behind and forcefully pulled her ponytail, seemingly causing her further distress.

One of Monroe’s teammates quickly intervened, exchanging heated words with Zullo.

The two exchanged pointed gestures, while shocked viewers online commended the teammate for defending Monroe.

Recently, Zullo’s son, Sam, shared a statement from his father concerning these troubling events.

Zullo expressed: “I am deeply remorseful for my actions following the loss to LaFargeville on Friday night in the Class D state championship game.

“I offer my deepest apologies to Hailey and her family, our team, the dedicated staff at Northville Central Schools, and our entire community.

“As a coach, there is never a justifiable reason to lay hands on a player, and I am truly sorry.”

The victory earned LaFargeville the New York State Championship.
