Galaxy Confirms Transfer Agreement for Kabini

TS Galaxy’s head coach Adan Beganovic has announced the transfer of defender Samukele Kabini to Norwegian side Molde FK.

Kabini, who is celebrating his 21st birthday today (Saturday), was absent from Galaxy’s 2-1 victory over AmaZulu in the Betway Premiership at King Zwelithini Stadium on Friday.

After the match, as Galaxy climbed to third place in the Betway Premiership standings with 35 points from 23 matches, Beganovic confirmed Kabini’s transfer and expressed his pride in facilitating this move.

“Indeed, Kabini has officially signed with another club, and we are excited because we have nurtured an exceptional talent,” Beganovic shared in an interview with Sportswire.

“Why not? If a club decides to go through with a sale, it’s not an issue. We have discussed this extensively and have mutually agreed on his transfer. It’s a positive step and a great opportunity for him.

“We cannot hinder his ambitions, and while the club has its goals, why not? We will keep nurturing other talented players.

“My responsibility is to develop players, and I find great joy in that.”

This transition has led to Mlungisi Mbunjana stepping up to fill the emergency center-back position alongside Khulumane Ndamane, a choice that was further praised by Beganovic.

“Mbunjana excelled in that role, and I am very pleased with his performance; he exceeded my expectations,” he remarked.

Kabini is currently in the process of obtaining his visa and required travel documents to head to Norway and finalize his transfer to Molde, who are competing in the last 16 of the UEFA Conference League.

Their transfer window will close on March 27, ahead of their league opener against Sarpsborg on March 30 at their home ground, Aker Stadion.

During his tenure with Galaxy, which he joined at the beginning of last season, Kabini made 39 appearances across all competitions, netting three goals and providing three assists. Notably, all of Kabini’s goals came this season, marking his breakout year.

Kabini joins a Molde team with a rich history, including ties to former Manchester United striker and coach Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who managed the club during two different periods. In his last tenure, Solskjær led the team to a second-place finish in 2018 before moving on to Manchester United.

This is also the club where former Orlando Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret had his time from January 1, 2007, to August 30, 2010.

Jonevret, who faced challenges in the PSL, was released by Pirates following the conclusion of the 2016/17 season after their defeat to SuperSport United in the Nedbank Cup final at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Pirates also finished outside the top eight that season for the first time in PSL history.

Additionally, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is a former player of Molde, where he spent two years and scored 20 goals in 50 appearances, along with six assists.
