MIKEL ARTETA praised the “courageous” Ben White after the player communicated his desire to Thomas Tuchel to rejoin the England national team.
The Arsenal defender has not represented his country again since leaving the 2022 Qatar World Cup early due to an alleged disagreement with assistant coach Steve Holland.

Despite this, White, 27, informed the new England manager Tuchel that he would be “thrilled” to return, although he was not in sufficient shape to participate in yesterday’s match.
This statement comes in light of a warning from Three Lions legend Stuart Pearce: “If players let you down once, they will always let you down.”
Nonetheless, Arteta supported his player, asserting: “What Ben did was incredibly brave, and not many would have taken that step.
“I played a significant role in [White declining the call-up].
“I fully comprehend Ben’s feelings, and it was evident to me why he made that choice.
“It wasn’t about [disappointing the nation]. It was about confronting the situation and expressing, ‘I can’t handle this right now, and I’m not in the suitable frame of mind to represent the country as I ought to’.
“In fact, it was the opposite. Many would choose to evade such circumstances.
“Regardless of the outcome, my primary concern is for Ben’s well-being.”

“Given Ben’s personality, he won’t be swayed by external pressures.
“If a rapport develops between Thomas and him, that’s fantastic. If he intends to rejoin the squad and Thomas is receptive, that’s wonderful.
Ben White aims for England return as Thomas Tuchel confirms Arsenal star ‘would love to be back’ in the squad
“He has the ability and potential to accomplish remarkable things with the national team.”
Tuchel spoke with right-back White prior to omitting him from his initial squad facing Albania on Friday and Latvia three days later.
White made his first start since November in Arsenal’s 2-2 Champions League draw against PSV Eindhoven following knee surgery.
Tuchel commented: “He is eager to return to the squad. Given his recent injury, it’s a bit premature.
“We are closely monitoring his training. We’ve been in touch with Ben. I’m pleased to have him back.
“It’s about regaining minutes and establishing his rhythm. He has a good opportunity to return. He’s glad to be back.”
Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri has received his first call-up to the England Under-21s.
The 17-year-old forward will participate in friendlies against France and Portugal.
Nwaneri, who has been impressive this season under Arteta with eight goals across all competitions, was even considered for a senior call-up.
